Rossglass Beach

Sightseeing attraction | Downpatrick | Northern Ireland | United Kingdom

Rossglass Beach is a picturesque beach on the east side of Dundrum Bay near Downpatrick, County Down, Northern Ireland. The beach offers stunning views of the majestic Mourne Mountains and is known for its calm and peaceful atmosphere.

Landscape and Surroundings
The beach stretches over a mile and consists of sand and shingle at high tide, while rocks become visible at low tide. The flat nature of the beach causes the water to recede far during low tide, exposing extensive mudflats. These tidal differences create ideal conditions for exploring rock pools and observing marine life.

Rossglass Beach is part of the 47-mile long Lecale Way, a walking trail that leads from Downpatrick to Newcastle. The area surrounding the beach is rich in wildlife, including a colony of seals and various wading birds such as oystercatchers. The tranquil location of the beach provides visitors with the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of the Northern Irish coast in an undisturbed environment.

Activities and Attractions
Although Rossglass Beach does not have a lifeguard station and swimming should be enjoyed with caution, the beach is ideal for walks, bird watching, and shell collecting. Its proximity to other attractions such as St. John's Point Lighthouse and the Ballynoe Stone Circle makes Rossglass Beach an ideal starting point for exploring the region.

The picturesque views of the Mourne Mountains and the peaceful surroundings make Rossglass Beach a special place for nature lovers and those looking to escape everyday life. A visit to this beach offers the opportunity to experience the untouched coastal beauty of Northern Ireland and observe the diverse wildlife of the region.

Přijeli jsme při odlivu a počasí nepříznivé. Pro přílivu to musí být krásná podívaná ..

Beautiful beach. Went for a swim November time! Be careful of rocks in water as sliced my leg whilst running in as they are hidden under the water level. Small car park for a couple cars. Nobody else was on the beach!

Quite a bit of rubble and mess before getting to the sand. But a nice quiet beach after that.
